With audio frequencies, use a good pair of headphones, preferably Active Noise Cancellation ones, and listen on a Comfortable volume, not too high, not too low, just what feels Good & Comforting.
When using speakers for longer solfeggio or environmental frequencies, play then at a volume that does not catch your active attention but hums along comfortably in the background.
A good indicator would be to play them at a volume so that if you talk to anyone or see a video on social media, you should be able to hear it without having to turn down your frequency volume.

Treat one issue at a time, avoid using too many frequencies at the same time. This applies to both audio and rife frequencies. Although there's no clear research data proving OR disproving the effect of absorbing multiple frequencies at the same time, Common sense says that if you run multiple frequencies SIMULTANEOUSLY, what you receive might be something different than the frequency that you intended to receive.
Perhaps this analogy would help. Think of frequencies as colours, or coloured lights. Now if you switch on a yellow light and a blue light at once, and place them together in a space absorbing both, you are actually absorbing green light, which is what it becomes when yellow and blue mix. You are no longer receiving a yellow or blue light.
The effect of green would not the same as the effect of yellow or blue. You have created a 3rd colour which is neither yellow nor blue.
Similarly, if you receive multiple frequencies simultaneously, you may actually be absorbing a totally different frequency, which is an entirely different frequency made by adding the multiple frequencies running at the same time together, which would not have the same effect that your original frequencies do. Makes sense?
Focussing on and running a single, or minimum number of frequencies at a time, also makes it easier to experience and observe its healing effects.
